Improve Your Page Rank With Keyword Modifiers

If you’re relying on keywords to drive traffic to your site, there’s a way to supercharge your copy to get to page one in Google more quickly. The secret is to use keyword modifiers. Keyword modifiers are words that you add to the core keyword to improve your ranking in search engines. It’s easy to do.

Regardless of your niche market, the goal is to brand yourself as THE authority. If you’re using generic keywords, you’re tossing money to the wind. If you’re not already on the first page of Google’s search results for those keywords, you may get lost in Never-Never Land. You’ll be just one of dozens-or hundreds-of marketers using the same keyword, and customers may never know that you exist if they’re using a generic search.

For instance, if you’re a copywriter and rely solely on the word “copywriter” to get noticed, you’ll be at the back of the line. Check it out…I just Googled the word “copywriter, and there are about 5,890,000 results. If you’re a new copywriter with a new website, it could take a long time - if ever - to get noticed.

Instead, use keyword modifiers to climb to the top of the search results. When I add “marketing strategist” to the same search, the list narrows to 258,000. Now, let’s try copywriter + marketing strategist + self help. Now, the list has narrowed to 65,800. If you really want to narrow your search, add a geographic keyword modifier to your copy. I’m going to add “South Carolina,” since that’s where I currently reside. There I am in the third position on a Google search. Because I am listed in a high-ranking website, I’ve increased my exposure.

At one time this website was on page one, and then I changed to a WordPress platform and lost my ranking. It’s amazing how quickly we can rise to the top and plummet to oblivion so quickly. That’s why you need to stay on top of your keyword marketing strategies.

Look at what your competitors are doing, particularly those who are in the top three spots in the search engines. What keywords are they using? Are they using brand names that you can somehow add to your web copy? Use these additional descriptions as keyword modifiers, add them to your copy, and you’ll have a good formula for improving your ranking in search engines.
